Birmingham Eastside Extension

Supporting Birmingham’s Tram Expansion

As part of the Birmingham Eastside Extension project, F&T Goodwin was contracted by Colas (on behalf of the Metro Alliance) to deliver complex surfacing works supporting the city’s growing tram network.

Our role involved the full delivery of surface upgrades across both public and private realms – managing multiple interfaces and material transitions within a tightly controlled, high-traffic environment.
  • What We Delivered

    • Planing, widening, and full-depth reconstruction

    • Surfacing and inlay works to:

      • Rail infills

      • Footways

      • Carriageways

      • Private entrances

      • Car parks

This multi-scope package demanded close coordination between teams and consistent quality across varied surface types and user zones.

  • Self-Delivered for Precision and Control

Every element of this project was delivered using our in-house:

    • Planing fleet

    • Paving equipment

    • Experienced surfacing crews

    • Site supervision and project management

This fully self-delivered model allowed for seamless sequencing, clear accountability, and on-the-ground responsiveness—minimising disruption and maintaining programme pace in a constrained city-centre environment.

  • Trusted Delivery in a Live Urban Setting

The Birmingham Eastside Extension is a key part of the region’s transport strategy, and F&T Goodwin’s contribution helped ensure the network’s surfaces were delivered on time, to spec, and with the reliability clients expect from our teams.
